Admission Requirements
To qualify for Intensive English or English Essentials, you must have graduated from secondary school and be 17 years of age or older.
In these programs, you will be placed in one of five levels according to your initial English proficiency score: Beginner, High Beginner, Intermediate, High Intermediate, or Advanced. Each level can be completed in one semester.
Beginner and High Beginner courses are offered based on enrollment. Contact admissions for more details and test requirements for these courses.
The chart below details minimum scores for levels 300-500.

Results of tests (DET, IELTS, and PTE) should be sent to the Virginia Tech Language and Culture Institute.
** Students may be asked to take an additional placement test upon arrival.
